Use that incredible brain and let the pain know it can't really hurt you. Make sure you have plenty to do as distraction is a fantastic medicine (cheap too!).
Enjoy your family and friends. Share your memories especially the really good and/or funny ones. Uncurl your toes and shake the pain off by shaking your hands ... feel it slip out of your body via the hands and fingers. Make up a great slogan for yourself and don't be frightened to share it. (I made up "If anyone can Joe can". Have used it for several years now - lets me do things that I think I can't do).
