I have a photo of him with all his family in navy rig, he is wearing his Officers uniform there. Not sure when the pic was taken though.
Not sure how to paste same pic. Will have to ask Stones about it.
It proves he either was an Officer or pretending to be one.
I think I can remember you at Hughie's farm Paul, the memory is not as good as it was. a brain operation for a tumour caused that problem.
That was a long time ago now that I think I saw you there, many years under the bridge now.
Living in the Philippines with my beautiful new wife and handsome son.

One way to find out would be through old editions of The Navy List (say circa mid-1970s) that would show if he was an officer and what his seniority (date of commission) is. Maybe Stones has copies of those?

Graham Thurstans
I was commissioned in 1990.
OAM for service as AMEO in HMAS HOBART. but really it was for having been lucky enough to have a great crew of tiffies and stokers who made me look better.

Something to cheer you up (maybe . . .) Demo.

Radio Pinoy DJ calls a number at random. Marisol answers.

DJ: Hello, If you can answer my question correctly you'll win 10,000 pesos.
Marisol: OK, sir . . .

DJ: What is the common name for the common household substance with the chemical formula NaCl?
Marisol: I don't know, sir . . .

DJ: Here's a clue - it's a white powdery substance.
Marisol: I don't know, sir . . .

DJ: Last clue - Your husband puts it on his eggs in the morning.
Marisol: Ah, Got it! TALCUM POWDER!
