1911 - 1918 Including World War 1 During the First World War the R.A.N. possessed 63 Ships, 22 of these were requisitioned. The RAN lost only 2 Vessels during World War 1 and these were both Submarines, AE1 & AE2. Restrictive world treaties and the infamous world depression reduced the R.A.N. considerably, whilst the navy commissioned 33 new ships during this period it lost 34, so as the outbreak of WW2 only 14 commissioned ships were fit for Active Service.
