Between the Wars 1918 - 1939
During the period between the wars the number of Commissioned ships was significantly reduced and vessels that had been requisitioned were handed back to their owners or sold off. Restrictive world treaties and the infamous world depression reduced the R.A.N. considerably, whilst the navy commissioned 33 new ships during this period it lost 34, so as the outbreak of WW2 only 14 commissioned ships were fit for Active Service.
