Obituary in the SMH Monday 25 June, also on-line. Born 3 July, 1926 and died 21 June, 2018. "The Weekend Australian" 23-24 June, reported that: " At the age of 17, he lied about his age to enlist in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II." Chris Merritt, the legal affairs editor, has a wonderful imagination. Not sure where he got this log-cabin story from. Sir Laurence was an honourable man and had no need to lie about his fine wartime service. He joined as a sailor with the RANVR on the last day of 1943 at the legal age of 17. He was appointed a midshipman in 1944 and was in Tokyo in HMAS Ipswich for the Japanese surrender. See the "Weekend Australian" 8-9 March, 2014. He also had an extensive profile in the "Sun-Herald", 21 September, 2008. He was also featured in a TV documentary, "Dynasty." Possibly the ABC or SBS and around 2005. He was a great Australian jurist.

Wiki said he was an Honourable Commodore in the RAN (Reserves). Did not know of that but surely he would be an Honorary/Commodore, if promoted?
